SpinnyWFC is a fan-made project dedicated to restoring online functionality for the DS and Wii. The goal is to restore the logic of the Nintendo WFC server after the shutdown.
What SpinnyWFC Does
- Provides replacement servers for DS and Wii online games
- Offers setup guides for connecting original hardware and emulators
- Maintains compatibility with a wide range of titles
- Supports community-driven preservation efforts
Why It Exists
The Nintendo WFC server shut down because their host, GameSpy, was shutting down its servers on May 31, 2014. GameSpy was bought by Glu Mobile in 2012. Glu Mobile announced GameSpys server shutdown and leading to Nintendo WFC's demise. Then Nintendo discontinued their WFC servers on May 20th, 2014.
Project Values
- Preservation: Keeping classic online games playable.
- Accessibility: Making setup simple for all users.
- Community: Encouraging collaboration and shared knowledge.
- Respect: No distribution of copyrighted game files.
